Handful of Printmakers – 6- 29 March (Thurs-Sat 11-4) & Sun 9 March (11-3)

While all five artists showing work here in March are linocut artists their work represents quite a variety. From L-R in the poster image are Charlotte Ashman (Charlotte’s Arts) who lives on and creates work about canal life. The image on the poster (in full below) charmed us in the Rugby Open and is why we have awarded her the Art at the Alex 2D prize. Her place in this exhibition is part of that prize.

Hannah Kempe (@ookempe) is a South African artist who draws a lot of her inspiration from nature and the forces of nature. There is a personal mythology evident in her work. Often a celebration of feminine power. The youngest of the artists and one with a fresh outlook.

Kerrie Suteu (Luminata Prints) has exhibited here before and we love (and have bought) her work. She will be bringing along a printing press and doing on-site printing while here. Her nature inspired work is very charming and she has such confident lines. The swallow in the poster is a detail from her most recent work.

Eric Gaskell’s work is on show at the Alex all the time as his canals book is on sale and usually other works also. His lino cuts often challenge you to make sense of them as lino cuts – how did he do that? You really do have to get to see them in person.

Steve Davies has work all around the Alex and this is where he makes his work. The one in the poster image was made for the recent Rugby Artists and Makers Exhibition ‘Five Senses’. Its a detail so come and see the full work. Also the artist at work.
