If you are a spinner you will see this differently from most people. Its a coloured sheep fleece from a Blue Texel (donated by Cllr Heather Timms and part of her Brandon flock). After washing we will be making the most of that colour variation to spin and weave with at Art at the Alex over a four day weekend. The aim is to take this fleece, sort, prepare, spin and weave (likely also knit and crochet) to create at least one wearable shawl.
Called a Sheep to Shawl challenge this is modelled on the Trockmorton Coat challenge where in one day (a long June summer’s day in 1811) sheep were shown, fleece was spun and then woven and made into a coat by nightfall. Far more ambitious than our project but we are using humanpower rather than a mechanised mill and 4 * 6 hours = 24 hours.
Hoping to have plenty of help and enjoy showing how wool can be made into cloth by hand.
Now off to wash this fleece.
